History of FAPA-CP
The concept of the FAPA College of Pharmacy (FAPA-CP) was initiated in 1996 by Associate Professor Boonardt Saisorn, then President of FAPA, and formally approved at the FAPA Directorate Meeting held during the 16th Asian Congress of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Following ratification by FAPA member associations, FAPA-CP was officially proclaimed in 1997 and formally inaugurated on 17 May 1998 in Mumbai, India.
In its early development, FAPA-CP operated as a subdivision of FAPA, closely integrated into the Federation’s governance structure. The Thailand Chapter, established in 1998, served as the first operational base and played a foundational role in developing specialization frameworks and Fellowship standards. The first Fellows were conferred in 2012 at the FAPA Congress in Bali, and Fellowship awards have since become a recognized tradition at FAPA Congresses.
Following revisions to the Statutes of the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations, FAPA-CP became an affiliate organization of FAPA in 2022, marking a new phase of institutional development and enabling broader regional collaboration. To support sustainable governance and long-term operations, the FAPA-CP Foundation was established in 2024, with its head office located in Thailand.
Regional Partners and Chapters
FAPA-CP’s regional development is built on strong collaboration with national professional organizations committed to advancing pharmacy specialization and advanced professional training across Asia.
The regional expansion of FAPA-CP was initiated in 2022, when the Ikatan Apoteker Indonesia (IAI) agreed to establish the FAPA-CP Indonesia Chapter during the FAPA Congress in Taiwan. Building on this initiative, additional chapters were subsequently established, reflecting the continued growth of FAPA-CP’s regional network.
